Marketing

Nicole Vlug 2002

The early years

Nicole is somewhat of an enigma when it comes to marketing. Though not professionally trained, having the passion of running her own businesses showed her how to and not to promote what she believed in.  It all began in the photographic retail shop at the age of 18.  She loved cameras so much that when a customer came in, she sold them a camera without the slightest effort….just create the magic and be genuine! Next, she applied her skills in her photographic business, positioning her products and services in the local market, all before the age of 20.

In her 20’s

Nicole spent a year selling investments while looking for a new career after photography.  The experience gave her invaluable sales and marketing skills.  The experience culminated in an award for high achievement in sales which was a 6 week round the world trip with the Directors of the company.  Selling investments was ultimately not creative enough and Nicole moved back into her own business.

With her company ‘Active Apparel’ Nicole had contracted media designers on an off but always found that she was unhappy with the results and had to alter the designs or start from scratch.  With access to computer software and inspiration from high profile friends in business, Nicole excelled in graphic design and marketing and promotion when her clients called on her for more than just uniforms or promotional products. Her training in image consultancy and an interest in colour psychology also came in handy when servicing her clientele.

& 30’s…

At NV Design, again, Nicole found it faster and more efficient as as well as more effective to do her own marketing and produce her own marketing material. From business card design, logos, photography, brochures, promotion and shopfront.  She contracted a webmaster to design her first website (no longer online) to her specifications which was years ahead of it’s time in design and features.

Marketing and selling her South American imported furniture was a breeze also, unfortunately she couldn’t find staff with the same passion and skills….and the business struggled when Nicole could not be there.

In her 40’s:

As the internet took off in a big way later on in the first 10 years of the 21st century, Nicole became hooked!  She had sold her business by then and was looking for new things to do.  Being involved with the Mace Energy Method community provided her with a product to experiment with.  She attended many workshops and seminars in Australia but also travelled to America twice for much larger Internet Marketing Seminars where not only were they at the forefront of new ideas and technology, but the networking and connections and support were substantially more beneficial.

By the time she upgraded to a Mac computer she was a full time internet and computer geek, self taught in a variety of different website platforms as well as on and offline systems for producing ebooks and digital download products. She created products and built websites for MEM related work for herself, other practitioners, and John Mace himself and trained and educated them along the way as best she could.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) became a major part of any website build.  There is no point having a gorgeous website up online if nobody can find it!  Technology, Google, and Social Marketing keep changing and therefore Nicole still regularly attends online seminars (webinars) live from USA to keep up with new technology, internet marketing strategies, SEO, and anything else going on in cyberspace.

Nicole built up her portfolio while travelling around NSW and Victoria in 2010-2011, discovering that there was a huge market regionally for the skills she had learnt. People either had a very bad very old website, or none at all, and/or were being charged ridiculous fees for their sites – everywhere she went. On her travels she helped a number of people out with their websites – sometimes in lieu of accommodation fees – and in this way gained experience and references to serve her in making the business professional.

Let Go And Live Cooking Program Filming

In 2011 Nicole was contracted by Susanne Grace of ‘Let Go and Live Well’ in a variety of roles. Overseeing her troublesome web designers, layout and design for the new 8 week programme workbooks (approximately 800 pages), editing, proof reading, negotiating web elements with the web builders, wordpress training, testing, email marketing, social marketing.   Being on the wrong side of the camera for a change, Nicole hosted part of the video training section of Susanne’s programme and was host alongside her naturopath on her 3 hour cooking video.

Currently Nicole provides website design and construction, SEO, wordpress training and workshops, graphic design assistance and logo creation, local, internet, and social media marketing through www.WebDesignDiva.com.au as well as marketing her own photography businesses.
