Round 1: Back then…

Nicole was always involved in photography.  She remembers as a very young child, sitting with her grandmother in her darkroom, processing and printing B&W images for Kodak, her grandfather would trim the images and package them, and they would drive into the city to deliver them and pick up more.  Her family were also excellent photo colourists…in the old days when Black and White was it.

Her Great Uncle was a professional photographer and artist and there were piles of his old photographic magazines at home for the kids to cut and play with…those photos did it!  She always imagined being a photographer. and she was accepted into the Queensland College of Art Photography Certificate Course after Grade 12 High School.  Frustrated with the slow speed of learning and huge amount of spare time through the week, she left before completing her certificate when offered a job in a photographic business with a retail store and studio.

She began with retail sales, and then weddings and portraiture, and was happy to be busy, productive, and learning. Unfortunately the store closed down not long after but with some experience and confidence under her belt she simply started working for herself from home at the age of 18.  Local advertising and winning over 30 local photographic competitions landed her with solid clients – the local council, newspapers, real estates – she was on call 24/7 and busy.

So busy in fact that by the time she was 21 she was burnt out!  Nicole felt she had expanded as far as she could in her current environment and decided a career change was the best idea.  Through her other business ventures she used her photographic skills to her advantage, for advertising and product marketing.

Round 2: Now…

With her mini retirement which commenced at the end of 2006, she felt the creative urge coming back… the little sony camera she used for family and fun could actually produce a good photo….and she started to want more…in 2010 she invested in a pro camera and lenses and now being digital….proceeded to re explore photography a lot more seriously.

Nicole has various business interests (as usual) and uses her photographic experience to compliment her other work including web design and marketing.  She also offers ranges of photographic promotional material in the form of postcards and art cards for sale to tourism businesses in the Upper Murray region of NE Victoria.

She has been invited to exhibit her work at numerous regional photographic art exhibitions, cafes and businesses. Her work was recently licensed to The Age & Sydney Morning Herald’s Weekend Magazine for a double page spread, the photo of wild brumbies was described as ‘stunning’ by the photo editor who found it on her online gallery. You can read that article online HERE.

She also donates her photographic services to charitable events and organisations.
